New Program: 19th-Century Housekeeping

HousekeepingWhat do turkey feathers, dried mint, and dried herbs have in common?  Visit us at Faiview for informative new programs and find out!  Starting tomorrow, Friday, August 5, Fairview will introduce a new weekly program on Fridays, a look into nineteenth-century housekeeping!  If you have ever wondered how families scented their homes in the days before scented candles and carpet powder, or how ladies dusted without certain namebrand dusting wands, we will teach you a lot about how the Hagy ladies might have cleaned their homes!

Take a look at this month’s schedule:

  • August 5, 1:00 p.m.:  Making a feather duster, drying herbs, sweeping
  • August 12, 2:30 p.m.:  Airing out the bed linens, beating the ticks
  • August 19, 1:00 p.m.:  Feather dusters, dried herb box
  • August 26, 1:00 p.m.:  Sweeping & floor cloths

We can demonstrate these household chores and more during your visit to Fairview!  Call (276) 676-0216 or e-mail us at to set up a guided tour!
