By now, you’ve read about the rich history at Fairview and the beauty of the property. One of the next reasons you should visit Fairview is the people—in fact, an entire organization of hardworking farmers! At Fairview, we are sweet on an organization, our partner, the Old Glade Antique Tractor Association (OGATA). This group of men and women helps Fairview with maintaining the grounds, projects on the property, and educating our visitors about our agricultural history. The OGATA motto of “Preserving the past for the future” parallels our mission and vision for the property.
OGATA members till our gardens, plant and harvest the crops, and take care of the land. They grew nearly 4000 pounds of potatoes on the property last summer and donated them to feed hungry families in Buchanan County, Virginia. They planted our Three Sisters garden and our flax garden. Their latest projects included the addition of a sawmill and a corn crib to the site.
The Fairview property also hosts OGATA’s annual summer show, to be held July 21-23, 2016. Their annual show is a huge event, with tractors, farming equipment, live music, and demonstrations of traditional agricultural methods. Mark your calendars now! This is a show you do not want to miss!
We could never thank OGATA enough for all they do to help keep our property preserved for future generations to enjoy! They are just one of the many reasons you should visit Fairview this year!
